Details on the participants. More important than a precise answer for all the individual participants is the overall level and background of the group.
Education level: 3rd semester bachelor students in engineering
Visitor background: “mechanical and materials engineering “, materials characterization that includes a component about synchrotron facilities....structure of materials and analytical methods, plus basic math, physics and chemistry.
Motivation, interest, expectations from the visitors: course in materials characterization that includes a component about synchrotron facilities. students in “mechanical and materials engineering “. They have had lectures covering structure of materials and analytical methods, plus basic math, physics and chemistry.
MAX IV It’s a big facility close to home that they dont know much about. They are interested to find out what it looks like and what it really does. A portion of their course is on x-ray methods, so if we can reinforce some of the concepts, that would be great.
Other Comments:
Guest: I received the list from my colleague (the other instructor for the course) and was surprised to see that 16 students signed up, plus the teacher. Is 17 a problem? Because last year the turnout was so low, I told him it would be fine to invite the 6 students from his master course in materials science as well. Turns out all of them signed up, plus 10 from our materials characterization course. If it’s too many, I can tell the master students to skip this one; they will anyway visit next semester as part of a different course. I’ll be a user at FlexPES next week so don’t need to be registered as a visitor I suppose.
HOST: For the visits to the experimental hall, we have a guideline of 10 visitors/1 MAX IV guide, for safety reasons. However, being aware of it and asking the group to keep together, close to me, while being at the experimental hall, I can take you all 17. And even better if I can ask you to help with that, so that I don’t have to ask another college to help. If you already have a MAX IV badge card, as user…and can enter into the experimental hall, it seems to me that you don’t need the Visitor card.
MAX IV interest: Outreach to User to-be
MAX IV staff involved: Ana Labrador
MAX IV room: None. Monitor an chairs at experimental hall
