Abstract
Fluorination of graphene-based nanostructures represents a promising strategy for expanding their use in several areas. Among the various potential applications, fluorinated carbon nanotubes and graphene are proposed as starting materials for the realization of chemical sensors. In this framework, the fluorination mechanism and its effects on the honeycomb carbon lattice are investigated using several spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The description of the engineering of a chemical sensing device using fluorinated carbon nanotubes is provided and the potential of these nanomaterials as a platform for analytes detection at room temperature and under humid condition is discussed.
