Affiliation Organisation/Company: LU as host of the Mirai PhD-course “Membrane for a sustainable future”
Preferred dates: 18 November 2019 afternoon
Visiting Group: Mirai PhD-course “Membrane for a sustainable future”
Mirai is a co-operation between connecting Swedish and Japanese universities with special focus on large scale research facilities such as much as MAX IV http://www.mirai.nu/, http://www.mirai.nu/phdcourses/
Date of the request: 2019-01-18
Date for the visit: 18 November 2019
Length of the visit: 2 hours
Visit starts: 14:30
Visit ends: 16:30
Number of visitors: 15 PhD student + 5 lecturers
Education level: PhD students
Visitor background: Chemical Engineering. The main topic of the visiting group is polymer and ceramic membranes for industrial and water applications. Membrane fouling is the certainly a key topic but other membrane related topics are of interest, e.g. I understand that you had a group using the Hippie line to gain a deeper understanding on water filtration.
Motivation, interest, expectations from the visitors: Knowing that the different technologies at Max IV e.g. 3-D tomography should be suitable to study membrane fouling, the idea was to round the day with a presentation by representative of Max IV introducing the facilities and lines available and to visit Max IV. It would be excellent to have this presentation at Max IV before visiting the experimental hall.

Other Comments:
The plan is to have a set of lectures related to membrane fouling – which is one of greatest challenge of industrial membrane processes - on the 18. Nov. 2019 as part of the course.
They have already the commitment of Prof. Tommy Nylander to talk about QCM-D and ellipsometry (Lund) and Prof. Tuve Mattson (Chalmers) to present Dynamic Gauging for the lecturers related to membrane fouling. Since, the 18 of November will be the first day of the course and some background presentations on membranes will be given, it might be even interesting for employees of Max IV to join this part. A limited number of Max IV people can join the lectures on 18th of November – however, it would be important for my planning to have a number. The lecturers will be in the Chemical Centre.
Advertise it here?? Not really: I do not want to announce it to broad because it is a relative small and defined course – we welcome some extra guest but only on a selective scale. However, since MAX IV is supporting the course, I am happy to open for interested people from MAX IV. However, I just received a Vinnova grant together with Rise related to MAX IV and thus there will be opportunities to interact in the future.
Disregarded: Based on this, the idea came up to have all lectures on the 18 Nov. 2019 at a lecture room at Max IV. This not only make an arrangements for the day easier but I think it also makes a different impression on our guests to have lectures at Max IV instead of conventional lecturer room at Chemical Centre – which they will visit on one of the other days.
The course will strengthen the relationships between Sweden and Japan in the area of membrane research including Max IV.
MAX IV interest: Outreach to "users-to-be" … !?Interest in attending some course presentation on membranes?
MAX IV staff involved: Innokenty Kantor, Suyun Zhu, Jörg Schwenke, Laura Hrastar (Ana labrador)
MAX IV room: MAX III booked from 14:30 to 15:30
